CBI approaches Rajya Sabha secretariat for papers (LTC scam)

CBI sources said a team has again gone to the secretariat to collect these documents.CBI sources said the agency has registered a case of cheating and forgery among other charges under Indian Penal Code(IPC) and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

CBI-TutyhubCBI has alleged that the MP purchased seven return e-tickets in connivance with the tour operator and the Air India employee. He also allegedly used online service to get boarding passes using web check-in basis.

The agency has registered its first FIR in the Leave Travel Concession(LTC) scam against JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Sahani for allegedly siphoning off around Rs 9.5 lakh by presenting fake air tickets and boarding passes.

Besides Sahani, Air India customer Service agent Rubaina Akhtar and Lajpat Nagar-based travel operator Air Cruise Travels Private Ltd have also been named in the FIR in the scam in which LTC claims were forged for travel on state-run Air India.

In his defence, Sahani had refuted the allegation claiming that it was he who had complained to the authorities about 20 fake tickets being submitted in his name.He has alleged that it was his personal assistant who had submitted these tickets for claims but no money was ever transferred to his account. The MP has claimed that he had brought this matter to the notice of concerned authorities and even submitted that complaint letter to CBI when it searched his premises here.

The tour operator and Air India did not offer any comments.
CBI has alleged that Sahani made false claims of approximately Rs 9.5 lakh for seven business class return air tickets costing nearly Rs 1.34 lakh each to Port Blair in December 2012 using fake air tickets and boarding passes for himself and six associates, the sources said.

The sources said just before the boarding time, these boarding passes and tickets were allegedly cancelled using the sign-in code of Akhtar, the Air India customer service agent, and money was refunded with little deduction.

Meanwhile, the e-tickets and boarding passes which were earlier issued were allegedly presented to claim the travel expenses by the MP.The sources said even though no expenses were incurred by the MP, he allegedly claimed the amount using these e-tickets and boarding passes which were cancelled.

Pakistan assembly adopts Anti-Drone resolution

Lawmakers in Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly late Monday unanimously adopted a resolution against the US drone strikes and called upon the federal government to take measures to stop these attacks.
US Drone-TutyhubThe resolution was passed days after a US drone killed Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud, which Pakistan says has scuttled the proposed peace dialogue with the militants, Xinhua reported. The resolution also called upon the federal government to go ahead with the plan to hold talks with the Taliban militants.Earlier, senior political leader Imran Khan, whose Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party rules the province, announced closure of the NATO supply line after Nov 20.

“On Nov 20, we will stop the NATO supply line in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he told a national assembly session.Khan said similar resolutions will also be moved in the national assembly and other provincial assemblies to evolve consensus against the US attacks.

Meanwhile, leaders of various political parties in the senate strongly condemned the recent drone attacks in which Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan leaders were killed.

They said the drone attacks are a conspiracy to sabotage the dialogue process with the Taliban. They called upon the government to revive relations with the US and raise the issue at the UN. Most senators of the national assembly said that an all parties conference should be convened to take a decision on the issue of NATO supply.

Ajit Jogi’s wife Renu Jogi has declared assets of more than 6 crores, same is the case with the current chief minister Raman Singh with 5 crore worth asset.

An interesting preview of the candidature is that 11 of the 25 crorepati candidates face criminal charges and 40 percent outside these have not declared their PAN numbers; however, 37 percent have filed their I-T returns. Academically too, only 38 percent of the candidates are graduates or above.

India’s Best bet in Paris “Saina Nehwal”

Saina Nehwal will be India’s best bet as most of her compatriots face tough draws at the $200,000 French Open Super Series which kicks off Tuesday at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin.

Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal smi

Fourth seed Saina, along with World No.10 P.V. Sindhu, have been drawn in the second half of the women’s singles. While the senior Hyderabad has a couple of easy rounds at the beginning, Sindhu faces a tough opener.

The World Championship bronze medalist will be opening the tournament against South Korean sixth seed Sung Ji Hyun, who is in top form after reaching the Denmark Open Super Series Premier final Sunday.

If Sindhu manages to beat Ji, she will have a relatively easier second round before a likely clash against last year’s runner-up Saina. In case Ji progresses, Saina will be under the gun as she lost to the sixth seed in the Denmark Open quarterfinals Friday.

In the women’s doubles competitions, Jwala Gutta — after much hullabaloo — will finally be taking to the court with old partner Ashwini Ponnappa for the first time since the 2012 London Games.

In the opener, the duo will take on Indonesians Gebby Ristiyani Imawan and Tiara Rosalia Nuraidah. If the Indian combine manage to win then they will likely be up against Japanese third seeds Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi.

Though Jwala and Ashwini are a successful pair, Indian badminton fans should not expect too much as they will take time to get accustomed to the courts and are out of match practice.

In the mixed doubles, India have fielded only one pair — that of Ashwini and Tarun Kona — who have a relatively easy opener. If they manage to win that then they will take on Chinese top seeds Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei in the second round.

In the men’s singles, all three Indian shuttlers have been drawn in the same half.

Leading the pack is Parupalli Kashyap, who has been drawn to face top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in the first round. The latter lost in the final of Denmark Open to China’s Chen Long and will be looking to make ammends which makes the task even more difficult for the out-of-form Kashyap.

Mumbai’s Ajay Jayaram faces Japan’s Kazumasa Sakai in Round 1. If he wins, then the winner of the Kashyap vs Lee match will be waiting for him next.

R.M.V. Gurusaidutt also faces a tough challenge against China’s Yuekun Chen. If he comes out victorious then it will be Indonesian fifth seed Tommy Sugiarto next and then Japanese third seed Kenichi Tago waiting for him.
